Helix process challenge devices (PCD) are used in steam sterilisers to test the autoclave's air removal and steam penetration ability. They are essential for upholding industry sterilisation and infection control requirements.
Practices, surgeries and clinics with pre-vacuum, B class autoclaves who sterilise solid or hollow loads as per AS 5369:2023 (formerly AS/NZS 4815:2006). A successful Helix test indicates that the steam steriliser is penetrating instruments thoroughly.
Helix tests are to be completed daily. Our customers complete them after their vacuum test every morning. Learn more about Helix tests and your requirements in the Australian Standard AS 5369:2023.
Helix kits generally come with user instructions. We recommend referring to these as different manufacturers may have slightly different instructions. The most common process is:
